Position Purpose

As part of the Hop Box Office management team, assists in and at times oversees the management and operations of the Hopkins Center Box Office, including the ticketing selling, reporting, performance maintenance and event creation aspects of the ticketing system application, participates in the opening, performance and closing activities, interacts with patrons, and assists in training the student staff.

Skills & Knowledge
  • Affinity for and demonstrated skill in working with computer systems is a must.
  • Ability to learn ticketing software system quickly.
  • Ability to interact with the public positively.
  • Must be punctual and trustworthy.
  • Above average accuracy and attentiveness to detail.
  • Willing to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Comfortable/knowledgeable with Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to supervise students and be the manager on duty when needed.

Minimum Experience

• Two years of related experience – customer service, sales or the equivalent.
• One or more years experience with currency and credit card transaction

  • High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities

Box Office

  • Serves as manager on duty for Hop films and performances and as such is responsible for the smooth operation of all aspects of the Box office operation.
  • Trains new students on the ticketing system and selling tickets and assists in their ongoing supervision including successfully communicating how Box Office procedures intersect with Hop policies.
  • Provides information about and sells tickets to Hopkins Center functions and events in response to over-the-counter, telephone and mail order requests including troubleshooting (via phone or in person) patron’s problems with the online purchasing process.
  • Monitors Hop Box Office email account, answering emails from patrons, Hop Directors and staff in a timely and professional manner.
  • Ensures daily tasks such as going to the bank and retrieving the mail get completed.
  • Operates an automated information and ticketing system and a DA$H terminal to complete and record the transactions while ensuring confidentiality of patron information.
  • Queries the automated system to access current and historical data and provides reports as requested by Hop leadership. Following Box Office policy and procedure, accesses the system to provide information requested by patrons regarding their ticket purchases and resolves customer problems, e.g. lost tickets, ticket exchanges, etc.
  • Applies a knowledge of event and theater characteristics (type of play/film, seating plans, typical customer preferences, etc.) to assist patrons in making event and seating selections for scheduled or planned performances. Verifies time and date of preferred performance.
  • Serves as a source of general information on Hopkins Center, on-campus, and other events of interest in the local area.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.
