Position Purpose

Checks and maintains all emergency light systems and exit signs on campus. Maintains all emergency generators including all aspects of the generator and transfer switches connected to the building load.

Skills & Knowledge

• Knowledge of AC and DC circuits
• Knowledge of batteries, inverters, and all relevant battery-operated equipment.
• Must have ability to read and understand wiring diagrams and schematics of motors and engine wiring systems.
• Willingness to work overtime when required.
• Strong customer service orientation.

• Must have successfully completed the following training prior to performing work to which the training relates:
o Driver Safety
Electrical Safety Related Work Practices
o Hazard Communication
o Lock-Out/Tag-Out
o Electrical Safety
o Fuel Tank Inspections

Minimum Experience

• Minimum four years of electrical installation/maintenance and emergency generator maintenance experience, or the equivalent.

Minimum Education

• High School graduate.
• Electrician’s license preferred.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and be qualified under the terms of the Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities

• Checks and repairs emergency lights, exit signs and inverter systems. Tests faulty equipment and applies knowledge of functional operation of battery-operated units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction.
• Checks and repairs gas- and oil-fired emergency power generators including all aspects of the engine operation and the generator functionality. Responsible for checking transfer switch operation and functions. Performs all lubrications, power tests and other functions as defined in the operator’s manuals for the generator sets and NFPA 110.
• Determines work methods to accomplish assignments such as repairs, replacements or new installations.
• Plans working details and follows schematics and wiring diagrams on all battery operated equipment.
• Replaces defective components and wiring and adjusts mechanical parts.
• Aligns, adjusts and calibrates equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications.
• Calibrates testing instruments that apply to the trade.
• Maintains records of repairs, calibrations, tests and fuel readings. Tank inspections Per NFPA110 and Title 5.
• Work requires bending, kneeling, standing, climbing, and working in stretched, cramped or awkward positions.
• Work involves regular lifting, carrying, or holding objects weighing from up to 80 pounds.
• Work is performed: indoors, outdoors, in bad weather, in areas that are dirty, or smoky and where fumes are present.
• Work involves wearing special or protective clothing such as aprons or overalls, gloves, safety glasses and other personal protective equipment.
