Position Purpose

Under the supervision of the Digital Collections and Oral History Archivist, provides administrative support for ongoing oral history projects and processes oral history materials according to procedures set out in the oral history processing manual.

This is a part-time (20 hour per week), three-year term position.

Skills & Knowledge

• Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail
• Experience with or ability to learn database applications
• Experience with or ability to learn audio editing software
• Experience with or ability to learn basic HTML
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Ability to work discreetly with sensitive or confidential materials
• Ability to manage student employees
• Ability to work independently
• Must be able to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 40 lb.
• Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse community

Minimum Experience

• Course work in history or related field
• Background or interest in oral history preferred
• Background or interest in archives preferred
• Experience working with historical materials preferred

Minimum Education

• Bachelor’s degree required

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities

Administrative Support
• Maintains databases associated with ongoing oral history projects, including entering metadata related to interviews and interviewees
• Performs outreach and communicates with potential oral history interviewees
• Oversees scheduling of oral history interviews

Processing
• Edits audio of oral history interviews
• Reviews interviews in preparation for transcription and communicates with transcription vendors
• Prepares oral history materials for publication to project websites
• Prepares intellectual description of materials and enters metadata into database
• Oversees and checks student assistant’s transcript editing and auditing work to assure consistency and quality.

Reference
• Provides reference service in the Special Collections reading room on a regular basis to a diverse community of users, with primary focus on the research and instructional needs of the Dartmouth community
