Position Purpose

To provide design, drafting, and commissioning of digital audio/digital video/digital control systems used in learning spaces, public assembly spaces, research spaces, and social spaces.

Skills & Knowledge
  • Videoconferencing applications, equipment and networking protocols knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to provide instructional based consulting skills and hardware and software recommendations
  • Construction document authoring, reviewing, and mark up skills, including use of 2D/3D drafting (AutoCAD)
  • Basic knowledge of network and server system operations,A/V streaming, collaboration and remote connection technologies expertise.
  • Excellent time management skills, able to plan/organize/complete work across multiple concurrent projects
  • Proven ability to solve problems quickly and completely with minimal supervision.
  • Experience operating within and improving best-practice processes based on ITIL
  • Mac, PC and A/V peripherals hardware and software knowledge is
    essential.
    Strong background in applied electronics.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills and ability to interact positively with faculty, students, and staff.
  • Proven record of collaboration on complex team projects.
  • Requires frequent lifting, bending, and twisting.
  • May require work on weekends and/or evenings.
  • A valid driver’s license is required and the ability to maintain a good standing on the College approved driver’s list.

Minimum Experience
  • Five years of work experience in Classroom Technology, IT or related field
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Electronics, or Engineering, or equivalent technical certifications, or equivalent level of work experience.
  • Audio DSP certification (Biamp Solutions).
  • Crestron DMC-E certified.
  • ITIL certification preferred.

System Installation and Projects

  • Reviews or contributes to project scope statements to describe the AV system performance requirements, notably in the areas of video and audio fidelity, system automation, alerts, and remote monitoring and control.
  • Develops or reviews, modifies, and approves all AV system electrical, detail, wire pull, and signal flow drawings required to bid or build a complete system.
  • Confirms that base building services (data, power, HVAC) documented by others are adequate and that the AV system and related room systems conform to office standards for use and serviceability.
  • Regularly researches, evaluates, and approves hardware and software solutions for standard and novel installations.
  • Specifies required system performance and measurements required of providers to demonstrate conformity.
  • Closely coordinates with the CTS project manager, the third party AV installer, and campus trades and networks personnel to bring installation projects to completion on schedule. As directed by project manager, verifies AV system installation (rack build, wiring, structure) and services provided by other trades conform to office standards. Participates in system testing by vendor or receives and approves vendor test reports.

Repairs and Maintenance

  • Expert provider of AV system repair services entailing hardware troubleshooting, configuration, repairs, or replacement.
  • Cross trains support team peers on hardware configuration, troubleshooting, repair and/or replacement to facilitate rapid response to system failures and for redundancy of AV system repair service.
  • Approves vendor provided maintenance
  • Contributes to vendor maintenance contracts
  • Creates knowledge-based articles to facilitate resolution of future incidents by self or coworkers.

System Management

  • Assigns Crestron Fusion alerts to system status changes and sets rules for when support team or vendor staff are contacted on failure. Follows through on alerts. Provides Classroom Services staff with remote access to troubleshoot or operate AV systems.
  • Maintains appropriate repair or project documentation (knowledge base) for consistency and efficiency.
  • Provides status reports as necessary.

Customer Service/ Operations

  • Sets up and operates portable equipment and installed presentation systems during class hours, evenings, and weekends as assigned.
  • Supports off shift events and leave coverage for the second shift Classroom Services Technician, which may entail overtime.
  • Represents the office personably and professionally through frequent in person contact with users and peer providers.

Professionalism

  • Researches, recommends, procures and manages the necessary equipment, tools, software, manuals, and etc. required for the department to keep its AV systems operational and to respond as quickly as possible to service failures.
  • Develops and manages the library of AV system as built documentation, QA test results, etc. required to maintain and upgrade each AV system over its lifetime.
  • Safeguards Dartmouth College intellectual property, to include deploying and maintaining back up, versioning, and check-out strategies.
  • Trains or coaches operations and support team staff in technical fundamentals of AV systems, with an emphasis on projectors (Christie, Mitsubishi), control and distribution (Crestron), and audio signal processing (Biamp.)
  • Maintains expertise in digital imaging, signal routing, and remote management; identifies training and professional development opportunities for self and peers; contributes to and supports professional standards within the office and to be applied by vendors.
  • Conducts general and project-specific technology research to insure best choice of available solutions to the performance required for a given project or service. Certifies equipment for standard application; determines when/which alternates are acceptable or required.
  • Coordinates with supervisor, coworkers, end users, vendors, manufacturers, suppliers, industry associations, and peer organizations as necessary to fulfill responsibilities.
  • Works with a diverse population in a professional manner, always aiming to provide consistent quality service.
