Position Purpose

To provide academic support for students enrolled in foundational science courses.

Non-exempt rate is $16.83.

Skills & Knowledge
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Commitment to teaching.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, database management and visual representation of data (charts, graphs, etc.).
  • Competency in web-based educational tools.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills.
Minimum Experience
  • Major/minor in specified science discipline with overall outstanding academic performance.
  • Experience as a tutor or teaching assistant as an undergraduate.
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College preferred and will be given preference.
  • Major in biology, chemistry or computer science preferred.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Attend assigned courses in specified science department (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science).
  • Work with faculty teaching these courses to develop adjunctive teaching strategies.
  • Tutor class participants in study groups and one-on-one meetings.
  • Assist in the development of teaching tools (e.g. tutorials, problem sets, web-based teaching & evaluative tools).
  • Function as a general resource for any student seeking assistance in study strategies in the sciences.
  • Assist in the development and assessment of the overall Fellows program.
  • Work with director and other faculty to coordinate activities of the Fellows with science departments and with the housing communities.
  • Work with centers that provide support for students in the sciences (e.g. Dartmouth Center for the Advancement of Learning (DCAL), First Year Student Enrichment Program, Health Professions Program, Academic Skills Center, Tutor Clearing House) to coordinate activities.
  • Participate in summer training program and attend training sessions to enhance pedagogical skills (e.g., at DCAL).
