Position Purpose

Serves as a member of the research and education team, providing research and education services to the Geisel School of Medicine, the Department of Biological Sciences, the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and other programs, in support of research, scholarship, education, and patient care in the health and life sciences.

Minimum Experience

• Library Professional I: 0-3 years post-graduate experience in a medical, academic, or research library in a relevant subject area.
• Library Professional II: minimum 4-6 years post-graduate experience, preferably in a medical, academic, or research library in a relevant subject area.
• Library Professional III: minimum 6-11 years post-graduate experience, preferably in a medical, academic, or research library in a relevant subject area.
• Library Professional IV: minimum 11+ years post-graduate experience, preferably in a medical, academic, or research library in a relevant subject area.

Minimum Education
  • ALA-accredited degree in library and/or information science, or a combination of an advanced subject or professional degree combined with relevant academic library experience.
  • Educational background in the health or life sciences preferred.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities

Research and Consultation Services

  • Provides a broad array of in-depth information services to students, faculty, staff, patients, and other library users.
  • Consults with and educates clients about access to and use of information.
  • Responds to requests for assistance by email, telephone, chat, or in-person.
  • Assists users in large research projects such as systematic reviews.

Education and Outreach Services

  • Provides a wide array of educational services in support of undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education. Participates in healthcare education programs, such as clinical rounds.
  • Working with faculty and other colleagues, provides direct curriculum support for the Geisel School of Medicine, the Department of Biological Sciences, the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice (TDI).
  • Promotes the Biomedical Libraries’ resources and services in the educational, research, and clinical arenas.
  • Communicates effectively with a diverse client community, and is sensitive to their varying needs.

Collaborations

  • Contributes to collection development activities.
  • Works with other staff to identify and develop effective strategies for meeting client needs and to make recommendations for improvements, long-range goals, and the formation of library policy and future activities.
  • Serves on and supports College, Geisel, DHMC, and TDI committees and initiatives as appropriate.
  • Participates in Dartmouth College Library task forces and committees as appropriate.

Professional Development

  • Keeps abreast of advances in biomedical sciences, academic librarianship, educational technologies, learning assessment, and pedagogy.
  • Involved in relevant national and regional professional organizations.
