Position Purpose

Proactively undertakes projects that enhance the department’s efficiency and visibility, involving instructional technologies, social media, and databases. Supports computer and technology needs for the faculty and staff of a large academic department.

Skills & Knowledge
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Broad knowledge of operation of PC and Mac computers.
  • Understanding of basic network protocols.
  • Knowledge of database administration (Access, Excel, Stats), website design, and learning management software (Canvas).
  • Ability to supervise student employees.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team; prioritize workflow and organize tasks, with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to interact professionally with a wide range of users.
Minimum Experience
  • Three to five years of relevant experience in database administration and user support.
  • Social media management and learning management software experience preferred.
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities

Database Administration

  • Enhances department’s efficiency by creating and proactively maintaining large databases for: progress of current undergraduates towards graduation requirements, alumni social outreach, and career sourcing research.
  • Assists in data projects that include maintaining other databases for alumnae, specific programs, and email listservs.

Communications and Social Media

  • Enhances department’s visibility by sourcing and creating content for and proactively maintaining its website, links to other offices, and displays throughout department hallways.
  • Engages students and general public with department social media. Creates, writes, enters, and maintains content and outreach communications.

Course Support

  • Assists faculty with learning-management and classroom technology.
  • Supports faculty in design and development of course material in Canvas, including creating and supplying course templates and proactively updating and maintaining information.

User Support and Technology Maintenance

  • Responds in a professional and timely manner to user requests for assistance with various computer or technology needs. Identifies issues and provides resolutions.
  • Connects, configures, and relocated computer equipment and other technology as requested.
  • Provides general service and maintenance of departmental machinery.
  • Provides input regarding technology purchases, and coordinates the ordering and shipping process.
  • Communicates and maintains relationships with College contacts and groups to keep department up to date on latest technology initiatives.

Miscellaneous

  • May supervise undergraduate teams on various projects as necessary.
