Position Purpose

The Coordinator of Student Programs & Events works on projects related to Hopkins Center Student Programs including social programs, Hop ensemble operations and performances, independent student group performances and other department-wide events and projects

• Proficient setting up and operating small-scale (club-like) lighting, sound and video packages.
• Proficient with computer applications including software and web-based tools to develop high quality internal and external communications.
• Availability and willingness for evening and weekend work.
• Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse community.

Minimum Experience

• 1-3 years of professional arts administration experience, or equivalent.
• Significant experience with events planning, coordination, promotion and execution.
• Strong preference for experience working with college-aged populations.
• Technical proficiency in digital communications required.
• Experience creating and editing video projects is preferred.

Minimum Education

• Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience.

Key Accountabilities

Student Programs & Events
• Project coordinator for a wide range of student experiences and performances in Hop spaces and for Hop-sponsored events across campus and beyond for tours.
• Coordinates arts-focused student social programs. Hires, trains and supervises student staff, interns and bartenders. Runs regularly held student meetings to decide programming. Monitors budget and attendance statistics. Is on site during events.
• Coordinates Exploring the Arts, the Hop’s first-year student Orientation program in September. Organizes and recruits staff and volunteers. Coordinates performances and works with Hop Production and other staff to facilitate production elements.
• Helps produce performance aspects of annual Arts at Dartmouth Awards Ceremony each spring. Works with student performers and participating academic departments and Hop Production staff.
• Works with independent students and representatives of College-recognized student groups looking to perform in Hop spaces to produce performances.
• Coordinates logistics for other Hop special events and performances produced by the Managing Director/Executive Producer.
• Helps coordinate Hop Dance program guest artist, rehearsal, residency and performance logistics.
• Works with Hop Ensemble Directors to support producing student performances and tours. Assists with and collaborates on integration of technology in student performances. Occasionally, compiles and edits videos for promotional, recruitment and performance efforts.
• Continually assesses Hop student program relevance and impact from a current student perspective. Makes recommendations and helps implement strategies and student communications. Collaborates on Hop student program assessment initiatives.
• Takes on special projects as requested by the Managing Director/Executive Producer.
Production & Technical
• Assists with audio, lighting and other set-up needs for flexible three-room suite of multi-use studios. (Uses include rehearsals, classes, performances, installations, and social events.) Ensures users and groups utilizing the spaces have technical needs met.
• Ensures functioning of equipment and reports on problems or technical issues.
• Coordinates with Hop Production on sharing of lighting, sound and video equipment.
