40 hours/week, Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 4:30pm, hours may vary depending on department needs, occasional evening and weekends required as needed, 12 months/yr. Position Purpose

Educational Technology Consultant I:
Under general supervision, delivers timely and effective customer support to the Medical School’s faculty, students, and other users of classroom technology; operates, troubleshoots, and maintains Medical School instructional equipment and multimedia systems; provides other technical and administrative support relating to management of the Medical School classrooms.

Educational Technology Consultant II:
Coordinates and delivers timely and effective customer support to the Medical School’s faculty, students, and other users of classroom technology; operates and maintains Medical School instructional equipment and multimedia systems; independently troubleshoots A/V issues; assists in the design and planning of new classrooms and instructional technologies; provides skilled technical and administrative support relating to management of the Medical School classrooms.

Senior Educational Technology Consultant:
Delivers timely and expert customer support to the Medical School’s faculty, students, and other users of classroom technology; operates and oversees the maintenance of Medical School instructional equipment and multimedia systems; independently troubleshoots basic and complex A/V issues and performs or coordinates repairs of A/V equipment/systems; provides advanced technical and administrative support relating to management of the Medical School classrooms; participates extensively in the design and planning of new classrooms and instructional technologies.

Skills & Knowledge

Educational Technology Consultant I:

  • Knowledge of A/V equipment and AV system operation.
  • Knowledge of the higher education technologies associated with classrooms and instruction.
  • Knowledge of Mac & PC operating systems and presentation software.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills and ability to interact positively with faculty, students, and staff.

Minimum Experience

Educational Technology Consultant I:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 2-3 years experience in A/V event support services, Instructional technology, IT or related field
  • 1-2 years experience in customer support activities
  • 1-2 years experience using presentation software, word processing, spreadsheet applications
  • Training experience

Preferred

  • Degree in a scientific/technical discipline
  • Experience using both Windows and Apple operating systems
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software
  • Previous computing help desk/presentation support experience
  • Experience operating Crestron or Extron controlled multimedia AV systems

Educational Technology Consultant II:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3-5 years experience in A/V event support services, Instructional technology, IT or related field
  • 2-3 years experience in customer support activities
  • 2 years experience using presentation software, word processing, spreadsheet applications
  • Experience operating, making minor repairs, and maintaining A/V equipment and systems.
  • Training/teaching experience.

Preferred

  • Experience using both Windows and Apple operating systems
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software
  • Previous computing help desk/presentation support experience
  • Experience operating Crestron or Extron controlled multimedia AV systems
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting a wide variety of instructional audio/visual and computer equipment

Senior Educational Technology Consultant:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or equivalent work experience
  • 5-7 years of professional experience in an enterprise environment supporting and troubleshooting media technology
  • 3-5 years demonstrated experience in customer support activities
  • 2-3 years demonstrated experience using presentation software, word processing, spreadsheet applications
  • Training/teaching experience

Preferred

  • Experience using both Windows and Apple operating systems
  • Experience using Microsoft Office software
  • Experience supporting media technology in a higher education environment
  • Experience supporting Crestron or Extron controlled multimedia AV systems
  • Experience operating and troubleshooting a wide variety of instructional audio/visual and computer equipment
  • Experience designing AV systems/learning spaces
  • Experience installing or overseeing the instillation of AV systems/equipment in educational environments

Educational Technology Consultant I:
Technical Support

  • Provides one-on-one consultations and just-in-time training to faculty, staff, students, and guest presenters on the operation of media technology systems in Medical School classrooms.
  • Assesses the hardware/software needs and technical skills of each presenter, and provides appropriate support to enable them to meet their teaching goals.
  • Provides on-call support and quick technical response to troubleshoot AV hardware/software issues in the classroom; escalates problems to other team members as necessary, to minimize classroom downtime.
    Classroom Maintenance
  • Coordinates with team members in maintaining classroom computers, AV equipment, and specialized equipment for lecture capture, wireless A/V equipment connections, etc.
  • Coordinates with team members in performing routine inspections of classrooms, AV equipment and systems to ensure classroom readiness.
  • Documents observed and reported “AV issues” and any corrective actions concerning classroom computers, AV systems, and equipment in the Classroom “AV Incident” log.
  • Assists in maintaining departmental databases.
    Classroom Management
  • Collaborates in the management of Geisel’s room scheduling system; uses room scheduling software to book and/or modify reservation requests for classes, meetings and other events in Medical School classrooms.
  • Consults with classroom users to identify needs and support expectations in advance of scheduled classes and events.
  • Updates Classroom Outlook Event calendar as necessary; coordinates with other Classroom Support team members to ensure adequate support for all classroom events.
  • Assists in management of the Echo360 recording schedule.
  • Creates instruction materials relating to the use of classroom technology, and other documents, as needed.
  • Researches new instructional technologies, as needed.

Interdepartmental Collaboration

  • Collaborates with other Classroom Support team members and Geisel Computing to learn the use and to develop best practices supporting new instructional technologies in the classrooms.
    Performs other duties as assigned

Educational Technology Consultant II:
Technical Support

  • Provides one-on-one consultations and just-in-time training to faculty, staff, students, and guest presenters on the operation of media technology systems in Medical School classrooms.
  • Assesses the hardware/software needs and technical skills of each presenter, and provides appropriate support to improve the user experience, and to enable them to meet their teaching goals.
  • Provides on-call support and quick technical response to troubleshoot AV hardware/software issues in the classroom; escalating problems to senior team members as necessary, to minimize classroom downtime.
  • Develops expertise in supported media technologies to provide support, develop product recommendations, and serve as a resource to other Medical School colleagues.
  • Respond to service requirements and emergencies outside of normal working hours as needed.
    Classroom Maintenance
  • Coordinates with team members in maintaining classroom computers, AV equipment, and specialized equipment for lecture capture, wireless A/V equipment connections, etc.
  • Coordinates with team members in performing routine inspections of classrooms, AV equipment and systems to ensure classroom readiness.
  • Carries out routine preventative maintenance procedures, performs basic repairs, and calls attention to other repairs needed for audio, video, and media equipment.
  • Documents observed and reported “issues” and any corrective actions concerning classroom computers, AV systems, and equipment in the Classroom “AV Incident” log.
    Classroom Management
  • Researches and recommends new technologies to address classroom and instructional needs.
  • Assists in the design of new classrooms and new AV systems.
  • Observes classroom activities to offer suggestions for changes in classroom technology and/or room features to improve the user experience.
  • Collaborates in the management of Geisel’s room scheduling system; works with Geisel Computing to enter Medical Education course reservations; uses room scheduling software to book reservation requests for meetings and other events in Medical School classrooms.
  • Consults with classroom users to identify needs and support expectations in advance of scheduled classes and events.
  • Updates Classroom Outlook Event calendar as necessary; coordinates with other Classroom Support team members to ensure adequate support for all classroom events.
  • Manages the Medical School’s Echo360 Lecture Capture Recording system.

Interdepartmental Collaboration

Senior Educational Technology Consultant:
Technical Support

  • Provides one-on-one consultations and just-in-time training to faculty, staff, students, and guest presenters on the operation of media technology systems in Medical School classrooms.
  • Assesses the hardware/software needs and technical skills of each presenter, and provides appropriate support to improve the user experience, and to enable them to meet their teaching goals.
  • Provides on-call support and quick technical response for reported problems with media technologies, including diagnosing and repairing problems related to the following equipment and systems: audio, video, projection, interactive panels, multimedia, computer and media controls.
  • Provides higher-level technical expertise to resolve escalated and advanced-level technical issues.
  • Develops deep expertise in supported media technologies to provide support, coordinate with vendors, develop product recommendations, and serve as a resource to other IT colleagues.
  • Provides in-depth training for team members on the use and support of media technologies in Medical School classrooms.
  • Responds to service requirements and emergencies outside of normal working hours as needed.
    Classroom Maintenance
  • Responsible for overall maintenance of classroom computers, AV equipment, and specialized equipment for lecture capture, wireless A/V equipment connections, etc.
  • Oversees/performs weekly classroom inspections to ensure classroom readiness.
  • Oversees/performs preventative maintenance procedures on classroom AV equipment.
  • Repairs, or arranges for needed repairs of audio, video, and media equipment.
  • Maintains the Classroom “AV Incident” log; addresses any recurring issues; recommends potential changes in computer software, AV equipment, or programming to improve AV system function and/or user experience.
    Classroom Management
  • Manages Dartmouth’s room scheduling system (EMS) for Medical School spaces; collaborates with Medical Education Dept. and other Geisel classroom users to provide the best match of rooms/AV features with user needs.
  • Manages Geisel’s Echo Lecture Capture Recording system, as needed.
  • Reviews daily events/class schedules and coordinates with other Classroom Support team members to ensure adequate support for all classroom events.
  • Consults with classroom users to identify needs and support expectations in advance of scheduled classes and events.
  • Creates and maintains written operational, configuration, and procedural documentation and data bases for departmental use, as well as end user documentation.
  • Researches and recommends new technologies address classroom and instructional needs.
  • Observes classroom activities to offer suggestions for changes in classroom technology and/or room features to improve the user experience.
    Consultation & Interdepartmental Collaboration
  • Collaborates with Geisel IT staff and faculty to better understand ongoing changes in the curriculum and instructional methods at the Medical School, and to optimize the use and availability of technology needed to support teaching/learning in the classrooms.
  • Consults with faculty, staff and students and recommends classroom technology options that best support their individual teaching and presentation needs.
  • Researches and recommends new technologies to address current teaching needs, as well as those to meet long-term teaching goals of the Medical School.
  • Consults with Geisel and Dartmouth IT staff to maximize knowledge and sharing of information concerning new instructional technologies and new classroom designs in use at Dartmouth, and other institutions of higher education.
  • Participates extensively with the Director in the design of new classrooms and AV systems in the Medical School, making recommendations for AV and room features to better support the Medical School Mission and improve the user experience.
