Position Purpose

The Associate Director of DEN will develop, lead, manage and execute the alumni engagement strategy and activity for DEN. Coordinates with alumni participants and supports alumni-driven events. Serves as the “face of DEN” for engaged alumni. As appropriate, serves as backstop for the Director of DEN.

  • Knowledgeable about the entrepreneurial environment.
  • Willingness and availability for evening, weekend events and for travel as scheduled in advance.

  • Working knowledge of Dartmouth’s undergraduate program.
Minimum Experience
  • Ten to twelve years of relevant work experience in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Career driven individual with passion for technology, entrepreneurship, innovation, and startups.
  • Experience and understanding of the Dartmouth Alumni community and network preferred.
  • Experience in leading and managing a staff preferred.
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Key Accountabilities

Alumni Engagement Programs

  • Develops and implements a national engagement strategy and set of initiatives to promote an active, connected and supportive DEN alumni community well-engaged with the campus.
  • Works in full coordination with the DEN at Dartmouth to develop and manage relationships and communication with alumni at the local and national levels around entrepreneurship to increase Dartmouth’s visibility.
  • Supports DEN City Chapters and facilitates their engagement with campus.
  • Expands DEN’s geographic footprint and reach through the strategic launch of new city chapters.
  • Coordinates and supports the semi-annual Dartmouth Entrepreneurs Forum in San Francisco and Hanover and serves as main point of contact with organizers.
  • Provides program leadership or program support for the conception, development, and implementation of innovative educational and networking DEN events involving campus and alumni.
  • Partners with Advancement to coordinate and support the College’s alumni engagement activities, enhance the student-alumni experience
  • Supports career network services, internships, and treks for students, faculty and alumni.
  • Creates, manages and contributes to supportive database systems of alumni entrepreneurs and subject matter experts that establishes opportunities for value exchange.
  • Actively engages with alumni using multiple communication channels, including newsletters, the web and social media tools.
  • Helps identify, recruit and host alumni speakers and mentors for on- and off-campus programming
  • Identifies opportunities and collaborates with other offices and divisions, included but not limited to Tuck School of Business, Thayer School of Engineering, Geisel School of Medicine, Center for Professional Development, Hopkins Center, and the School of Arts & Sciences, to build internal partnerships creating innovative program offerings and to strengthen current programmatic offerings that involve alumni engagement related to DEN.
  • Manages special initiatives and projects in coordination with the Director.

Operations Management

  • Develops and monitors a budget.
  • Evaluates program administration and delivery processes, recommending changes, creating processes or systems as needed.
  • Conducts program evaluations to insure high customer satisfaction.
  • Monitors sponsorship reporting and processing.
  • Ensures that business operations are efficient and effective.
  • Works within established Dartmouth systems and processes in operations, records management, information systems, and risk management.
  • Supervises volunteer, part-time or full-time staff, as approved and assigned.
  • Provides backstop to the Director of DEN as appropriate when needed.
