Position Purpose

This position may provide support in any area across Access Services, including circulation, reserves, shipping and receiving, and stacks maintenance. Its primary responsibility is to support resource sharing services for the Dartmouth College Library, including interlibrary loan, Borrow Direct, and on-campus document delivery.

This is a part-time (20 hour per week) position.

Skills & Knowledge

• Familiarity with local and national resource sharing procedures and policies.
• Familiarity with computer systems and networks, scanning equipment, and related software such as Adobe Acrobat. Excellent computer searching skills.
• Ability to work diplomatically with members of the academic community and the general public in a public service environment.
• A strong commitment to library public service is essential.
• Ability to work independently, set priorities with a high degree of initiative and judgment, and meet deadlines.
• Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population

Minimum Experience

• One year of library experience or the equivalent in job experience and/or training.

Minimum Education

• Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities

Resource Sharing – Borrowing
• Provides resource sharing services for Dartmouth College faculty, students, staff, alumni/alumnae, and library guest borrowers.
• Receives and routes requests.
• Produces borrowing statistics for reports and copyright compliance (CONTU).

Resource Sharing – Lending
• Provides resource sharing services for libraries borrowing from Dartmouth.
• Receives requests and refers incoming requests to appropriate libraries within the Dartmouth library system.
• Produces lending statistics for reports.

Additional Possible Duties:
• Provides resource sharing technology support, including maintenance of sharing web pages and maintenance of resource sharing software.
• Hires, trains, supervises, student assistants and creates student training materials.
• Coordinates activities around billing, missing items and lost and damaged materials.
• Assists in formulation of department and library system resource
sharing policies and procedures.
• Provides public service support at library’s public service desks.
• Provides support with stacks maintenance and shipping and receiving.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
