Position Purpose

Support the goals of Advancement by analyzing data and technology solutions/systems and communicating findings in order to answer questions, solve problems, understand opportunities and identify market and business trends. Promote the application of efficient administrative business processes through independent workflow analysis and design, and the effective use of technology and administrative information systems. In addition, to serve as a mentor to junior analysts and leads project work groups.

Skills & Knowledge
  • Use of PL/SQL and SQL along with other languages and programs to mine complex data sources and look for trends.
  • Experience working with fundraising and ERP systems, data warehouse solutions and data marts.
  • Ability to analyze data and determine what data trends mean for the business.
  • Leadership, presentation, and training skills.
  • Oral and written skills that support the effective communication with technical staff and business leadership.
  • In-depth knowledge of Development and Alumni Relations business requirements and goals.
  • Ability to work in a team environment. Certification in or use of Scrum or comparable agile methodologies preferred.
  • Commitment to customer service, diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse population.
  • Fluency with desktop applications such as Word, Excel, Access, FileMaker.
Minimum Experience
  • At least six years of experience working with complex data systems, preferably in a college or university setting.
  • At least six years of work involving extensive contact with customers identifying, researching, analyzing, and resolving complex issues.
  • Of the six years, two years’ experience performing complex data analyses and business process reviews.
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

DATA ANALYSIS / REPORT DEVELOPMENT / DATA DELIVERY

  • Use complex computer programs to mine data sources and look for trends.
  • Determine the meaning of data trends, and communicate findings to colleagues, managers and senior leadership; recommend solutions or courses of action appropriate for the situation.
  • Work with users to leverage available technologies (e.g. reports, business intelligence systems, data visualization software) that effectively deliver organizational and/or business unit data.
  • Define business and system requirements for new reports and changes to existing reports.
  • Develop business, functional, and technical specifications as well as test plans for reports and system updates and changes that may be required to support software updates/releases or business changes.
  • Work with programmers during the development cycle to complete project specifications, complete coding in a timely manner, define and execute test plans, and manage releases.
  • Provide data to end-users leveraging various data management and analysis applications to deliver formatted reports and/or data extracts.
  • Provide end user training and documentation relative to the use of data and reports.

BUSINESS SYSTEMS ANALYSIS

  • Work on behalf of the Information Management Systems (IMS) Team and institutional Advancement partners to assess existing and future business/system needs. Communicate needs to management structures, and works with both groups to define future direction and priorities.
  • Conduct departmental workflow studies to evaluate current complex business policies and practices, and identify areas for improvement. Prepare and present study findings and recommendations to departmental management and other interested parties.
  • Identify, analyze, and document business requirements to ensure that information systems meet departmental operating needs. Identify gaps and potential solutions. Report findings and recommendations to Development & Alumni Relations management as appropriate.
  • Work with departments to integrate and optimize their business practices through the effective application of information technology systems and solutions
  • Lead project work groups to implement new or enhanced information systems.
  • Develop and provide systems training to users in individual or classroom-based settings.
  • Develop and produce site/function-specific systems, application, and work flow documentation.
  • Facilitate the implementation of approved changes to departmental policies and practices.

SUPPORT

  • Provide technology application and business systems analyst support and end user training services.
  • Work with other computing groups to provide ongoing support for departments in the use of information systems, including continuing improvements in system usage, rollout of new functionality (e.g. upgrades/patches for Advance and other software), problem resolution, and additional training.
  • Represent IMS on various committees and teams such as project management committees, steering committees or working groups.

COMMUNICATION / MENTORSHIP

  • Facilitate communications regarding changes in systems, policies, and processes.
  • Mentor and/or support junior staff, peers and colleagues, sharing knowledge, offering advice, and providing assistance as needed.
  • Develop understanding of similarities and differences in diverse cultures through employee education programs. Communicates respectfully to a diverse community and adjusts training with a diverse population in mind.
