Position Purpose

To provide prospect management services and research report writing to the Office of Health Care Philanthropy. Focuses on prospect management systems and processes including prospect identification, pipeline and moves management in multiple fundraising systems ensuring data integrity across all systems; manages variety of wealth screen projects for donor, patient and alumni constituencies. Coordinates research report writing efforts with Senior Strategic Analyst and participates in the design and implementation of research activities to be provided to hospitals affiliated with Dartmouth-Hitchcock.

Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, attention to detail and an aptitude for logical thinking.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to motivate and work effectively with groups and individuals.
  • Exceptionally strong computer skills including database, data analysis, and desktop software products.
  • Ability to organize work coordinate projects with others, manage multiple project simultaneously, and establish policies/procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and cooperative in a fast-paced, dynamic and sometimes, stressful, environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
Minimum Experience
  • Three plus years of experience in the role of prospect researcher, metrics reporting and data analysis in an advancement environment.
  • Experience with subscription-based online search engines.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of fundraising data systems in the tracking of prospect data and moves management.
  • Experience with Raisers Edge and/or Advance preferred.

  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent.

Program Planning Management

  • Proactively works with frontline fundraisers in the review of data associated with prospect pools ensuring accuracy and appropriateness of assignments, recording of strategy, ratings, asks, philanthropic interests, next actions, and the like for prospects in multiple systems.
  • Develops strategies for how to best utilize resources for data mining and identification of new leads. Identifies and qualifies new prospective prospects to maintain pool of prospect leads for assignment to fundraisers. Coordinates with philanthropic services and front line staff on prospect affinity outreach and the recording of this work in Raisers Edge and Advance Systems.
  • Assigns baseline capability ratings to newly identified prospects, researches and re-evaluates capacity rating on previously rated prospects.
  • Works closely with Associate VP and program leaders to design and manage efficient prospect management systems and related data entry, reports, and processes. Trains staff on the same.
  • Conducts web-based research of publicly available information; uses this information to answer questions, produce profiles, and complete write-ups on new prospect leads.
  • Uses prospect research techniques to conduct in-depth biographical, philanthropic and financial analysis of prospective and current donors. Maintains an effective balance between proactive, reactive and special project research.
  • Reviews local and national news and business publications. Keeps abreast of prominent prospect and philanthropic news, local and regional business developments and economic trends.
  • Ensures all research requests are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensures fundraisers are informed and alerted regarding new information about the gift capacity and funding interests of top prospects and potential prospects.
  • Establishes data standards then provides training to fundraisers and support staff on the prospect tracking system, proposal tracking system and training on contact report guidelines for Raisers Edge and Advance.
  • Oversees data integrity of research, business and related information in Advance and Raisers Edge. Develops reports and other statistical data that tracks the overall data integrity and ongoing progress of our prospect pool.
  • Develops expertise in complex medical and scientific industries where Geisel alumni/ae and/or D-H prospects are clustered. Develops external resources to monitor and track industry specific changes that are relevant to our mission.
  • Establish tickler files on prospects involved in initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, and other business activity that will affect ratings. Monitors information services to identify alumni and potential donors.
  • Monitors news and publicly-available financial information on major gift prospects and potential prospects from profession publications, press releases and major newspapers
  • Develops professional relationships to strengthen knowledge of prospect research and advance procedures and best practices.
  • Serves as a member of the Assoc. VP’s senior leadership team, participates in policy discussions related to the overall strategic direction of the Advancement Strategy & Operations team.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.
