Position Purpose

Under the direction of the Associate Director for Classroom Technology Services (CTS), the Academic Technologist will work collaboratively with various groups to provide top-notch learning spaces and services for teaching and learning. The unique value and focus of this position is to express the collective understanding of individual faculty and learner needs in holistic learning space designs, technology services within or available to the learning space, and strategies for engaging and supporting faculty and learners.

Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong intrinsic desire to learn new and emerging technologies that apply to education.
  • Demonstrated ability to pick up and learn new systems quickly and efficiently, and be able to communicate their findings to other members of the team.
  • Experience using a learning management system.
  • Knowledge of instructional design principles and tools.
  • Familiarity with Crestron Studio desired.
  • Demonstrated working ability to navigate and manage systems efficiently and easily.
  • Excellent to superb problem solving abilities when dealing with troubleshooting a system or critically evaluating new software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and work compassionately with faculty and student users of varying technical/operational skill and interest levels.
  • Excellent writing ability when expressing complex problems or instructions to a nontechnical audience.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to take initiative and use creativity.
  • Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong commitment to a diverse working environment and to serving the needs of a large and diverse community.
Minimum Experience
  • Three years professional experience in a field that is directly related to the functions of the position to be filled.
  • Experience with collaboration and project management tools.
  • Experience designing user interfaces; graphic design skills.
  • Training experience.
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities

Learning Space Design

  • Partners with the Registrar and ID peers to promote, administer, and support learning space innovation programs such as the Berry Innovation Center and other novel active learning spaces.
  • Is the ITS design principal on learning space projects. Specifically responsible for user experience and user interface design, and generally responsible for the design overall.
  • Participates as a consultant for various committees/campus systems projects with a learning space or learning space technology service component. For example: Universal Design for Learning / UDL.
  • Commissions built systems for usability; introduces and orients faculty and student users.
    Collaboration and Support
  • Heads up and coordinates learning space user support. Answers support questions and gives instruction on technology issues. Escalates instructional design questions to the ID team as needed.
  • Acts as a consultant for faculty and departments looking to better utilize classroom technology.
  • Creates and maintains knowledgebase for learning spaces and services at Dartmouth; both for end-users, and internal documentation.
  • Provides one-on-one assistance and consultation to faculty utilizing technology.
    Learning Space Services
  • System administrator and main responsible party for learning space services, such as:
    - Echo 360 lecture capture
    - Mersive and Air Media wireless display
  • Conducts testing on learning space services beta and production releases.
  • Provides recommendations on emerging learning technologies to the team, and investigates potential solutions that suit specific needs.
  • Creates and executes test plans for new integrations or technology pilots.
  • Assists with the discovery process of acquiring new tools, when appropriate, to cover specific instructional needs, such as for innovation projects and in response to accessibility needs.
