Position Purpose

To deliver premium customer service to Dartmouth’s teaching faculty, their students, and staff.

Skills & Knowledge
  • Experience with A/V equipment operation, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of the higher education technologies associated with classrooms and instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide instructional based consulting skills and hardware and software recommendations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills and ability to interact positively with faculty, students, and staff.
  • Experience in technology planning for event support and facilities management support
    Mac, PC and A/V peripherals hardware and software knowledge is essential.
  • Requires frequent lifting, bending, and twisting.
  • May require work on weekends and/or evenings.
  • A valid driver’s license is required and the ability to maintain a good standing on the College approved driver’s list.

Minimum Experience
  • Five years of work experience in Instructional Technology, A/V Event Support Services, IT or related field.
  • Experience supporting A/V technology environments.
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent in education and experience.
  • ITIL Certification preferred.

Key Accountabilities

Key Accountabilities

Provides Enhanced Classroom Support for Academic Classes, Meetings and Events

  • Delivers enhanced A/V services support to meet teaching goals and to enhance presenter’s technical abilities in the classroom.
  • Oversees satellite service areas and specialized A/V deployments to support special groups, departments and schools.
  • Provides smart classroom support to accommodate unique requests requiring specialized services.
  • Meets with users to demonstrate equipment operation and to ensure that network access protocols are understood.
  • Utilizes classroom monitoring software and scheduling tools to confirm equipment readiness and to anticipate support requests.
  • Provides on-call support and quick technical response to troubleshoot issues with instructors and to minimize classroom downtime.
  • Reviews daily requests for assistance and assigns and deploys support staff to multiple locations.

Maintains Operational Support Areas and Insures Quality Control of A/V Technologies

  • Maintains master control systems and specialized equipment to deliver overflow broadcast, event capture and conferencing capabilities.
  • Utilizes service management and monitoring tools to coordinate classroom repairs, conduct maintenance follow-ups and ensure availability of services.
  • Provides higher-level technical expertise to resolve escalated maintenance requests and advanced-level technical issues.
  • Coordinates and performs weekly classroom inspections, repairs and projector lamp replacements to ensure classroom and event readiness.
  • Conducts specialized preventative maintenance checks on equipment to ensure operational readiness and to minimize downtime.
  • Surpluses broken and unused classroom technologies and equipment to eliminate storage clutter and to maintain a working inventory.
  • Applies new classroom technologies to service areas for enhancing the A/V experience for presenters and participants.
  • Captures daily classroom observations to identify operator error and misuse issues in order to ensure operability.

Consults with Users on Technology Options and Provides Specialized Training

  • Consults with Registrar and meeting services planners, to identify upcoming events and to determine support requirements.
  • Interacts with room users to identify needs and level expectations in advance of scheduled meetings and events.
  • Performs post-event evaluations to examine successes and to apply insights to future events.
  • Consults with faculty, staff and students to recommend classroom technologies for meeting long-term teaching and department goals.
  • Observes instructors in the classroom to offer equipment upgrades and venue changes in order to meet instructional expectations.

Performs Special Projects, Research and Customer Outreach

  • Supports the student hiring and supervision process to ensure Classroom Technologies staffing needs are met.
  • Researches and recommends new technologies to provide instructors with multiple teaching and presentation options.
  • Interacts and coordinates with vendors, campus facilities and service departments to coordinate improvements to new and renovated spaces.
  • Supports walk-in checkout services to provide portable A/V equipment for students, faculty and staff.
  • Interacts with users to solicit recommendations for classroom and meeting space service improvements.

Partners with Colleagues and Departments

  • Collaborates with team members to test and provide input on future products and services for effective distribution and deployment.
  • Participates in cross-team projects and initiatives to expand knowledge and gain a broader view of IT operations and services.
  • Develops relationships with departments and event planning entities to foster enhanced communications for meeting service level expectations.
