Position Purpose

Dartmouth College Hillel’s (DCH) vision is to inspire every Jewish student to make an enduring commitment to Jewish life, its people, Israel, and to tikun olam (repair of the world). Through oversight of student programs and outreach, leadership training, and management and development of Hillel initiatives, this position serves to enrich the lives of Jewish students at Dartmouth College in order that they may better the world.

Skills & Knowledge

• Knowledge of Judaism as well as a demonstrated sensitivity to the general issues involving Jewish life on campus.
• Awareness of age-related issues of college-age students.
• Excellent interpersonal, group leadership, written and verbal communications skills.
• Established supervisory skills.
• Demonstrated organizational, time management, problem solving, project management, presentation, and team-building skills.
• Social media experience/skills.
• Demonstrated skills collaborating with colleagues in developing integrated programs in supporting a diverse range of students and student issues.
• Demonstrated ability to build relationships & work collaboratively with students, alumni, faculty and staff in a collegiate atmosphere committed to serving a diverse population.
• Tact and discretion in dealing with sensitive or confidential matters.
• Commitment to diversity and to serving the needs of a diverse community.

Minimum Experience

• Four years of work experience at a Hillel or similar student engagement organization, preferably as both a student leader and as a professional staff person.

• Experience in engaging a diverse student population who are involved in varying degrees in a rich and stimulating academic and religious life.

Minimum Education

• Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Rabbinic ordination preferred.

Student Program Development and Management
• Envisions and develops an inspiring Jewish life, in partnership with staff, student leaders, faculty, Board of Visitors, and alumni.
• Passionately communicates DCH Mission, Vision, and Values in support of the goals of student ownership of its community and student engagement as foundation to DCH’s work with students.
• Cultivates relationships with alumni, parents, the Development office, and others as partners to build a sustainable financial base; all in concert with College policy and objectives.
• Works collaboratively with student leadership in the development, implementation and execution of programs that appeal to the broad spectrum of Jewish students.
• Develops and implements metrics with which to evaluate each program and its relationship in furthering the mission of DCH.
• Attends and assists in Dartmouth Hillel programs and College programs beneficial to the organization and/or student community.
• Works closely with William Jewett Tucker Center Chaplain and Dean of Religious and Spiritual Life.
• Researches and analyzes available information and data and plans strategies to engage the Jewish student population not presently involved in Hillel-sponsored activities.
• Implements strategies that include personal meetings, programs, and joint sponsorship with other student affiliated groups.
• Develops and facilitates student leadership training and development programs and initiatives including two student leadership development institutes annually.
• Develops a Hillel Division that responds to the needs of Dartmouth Jewish graduate students.
• Manages Dartmouth Hillel schedule-of-events working calendar with the College and the Upper Valley Jewish Community.

Finance & Administrative
• Manages the development and administration of program budgets.
• Ensures accuracy and maintenance of records and files of all Dartmouth programs (e.g. program development, publicity).
• Develops and administers operational policies, procedures and systems.
• Performs financial accounting and business functions including monitoring budget vs. actual expenses and income, tracking and reporting program income and expenses, reconciling accounts, approving and processing payroll, HR, travel, purchasing and similar forms.
• Directs and manages Hillel’s annual development/fundraising and stewardship efforts.
• Supervises support staff, student workers, and interns.

Mentoring and Referral
• Counsels students at their request or refers them for counseling or other resources when appropriate.
• Initiates and maintains a working network with related student campus groups as well as the Upper Valley Jewish Community to serve as a resource and to make their materials and information available to students.
