Position Purpose

To provide expert guidance and support to Dartmouth’s departments and programs in their use of the web with a focus on content structure, editing, and presentation. This role provides subject matter expertise in accessibility, content strategy/development, and Dartmouth Web guidelines to support all the college’s content owners.

Skills & Knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to manage communications projects in digital media.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of individuals.
  • Superior writing and editing ability. Strong attention to clarity, accuracy, and style.
  • Knowledge of best practices in content strategy, writing for the web, user-experience design, and information architecture.
  • Experience with content management tools and digital communication technologies, including social media, blogs, and multimedia
  • Understanding of SEO and accessibility principles
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, balance competing demands, exercise tact, discretion, and independent judgment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Ability and enthusiasm for acquiring new software skills.
  • Strong commitment to a diverse working environment and to serving the needs of a large and diverse community.
Minimum Experience
  • Five or more years of professional communications experience, preferably in developing and editing digital content.
  • Extensive writing and editing experience.
  • Some managerial experience preferred.
  • Experience with a content management system preferred.
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Concentration in journalism, English, communication, marketing; consideration provided for comparable experience and related continuing education.

Content Support and Project Coordination

  • Work directly with clients to develop information architecture, content strategy, user testing, and editorial strategies for web projects.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for content and UX decisions on the Web Services team both for Dartmouth college clients and Web Services suggested improvements.
  • Advise clients on how to incorporate engaging online content such as photography, text, audio and video using a working knowledge of content strategy.
  • Ensure a user-centered design approach is applied to web projects.
  • Work with the client and the project team to develop and implement web site standards.
  • Produce and edit a range of written content, including information material, positioning language, and stories.
  • Support clients in optimizing content for SEO and the use of common taxonomies to support content sharing across websites.
  • Assist website owners in analytics assessment to improve site content.
  • Work as part of the larger Web Services team to support the work request prioritization process.
  • Work with department leadership to develop timelines for initiatives and complete within established timelines.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Develop and present training materials to site owners, including web writing best practices and Dartmouth writing and editing guidelines.
  • Effectively collaborate with vendors and the development teams to further enhance the content management system
  • Develop understanding of similarities and differences in diverse cultures through employee education programs
  • Communicate respectfully to a diverse community
