Position Purpose

To perform a wide range of entry-level admissions duties, including management of a designated recruitment territory, acting as the Dartmouth liaison to guidance counselors and prospective applicants from the territory, traveling to high schools to attract qualified students, reviewing and assessing applications, conducting group information sessions, and supporting the administrative portfolio of a senior admission officer.

  • Significant out of town travel as well as evening and weekend commitments is required.

Minimum Experience
  • For appointment as an Admissions Officer: One year of relevant experience as a student worker in a college admissions office or related academic setting and/or direct experience in the Dartmouth community as a recent graduate. Appointment is for one year, renewable for a second year upon successful performance in the role.
  • For appointment as an Assistant Director: Two years of professional experience as a college/university or independent school admission officer in a selective admissions environment.
Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s degree or the equivalent, preferably in a liberal arts discipline.

Note: Employment will be contingent upon possession of a valid U.S. or Canadian driver’s license and continued qualification as an Approved Driver under the Dartmouth College Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Policy.

Admissions Functions

  • Plans, organizes and manages all admissions activities, including general and targeted recruitment travel, for a designated geographic region. Represents Dartmouth at high school visits, college fairs and related recruitment programs.
  • As a full voting member of the selection committee, reviews and evaluates approximately 1,000 applications per year to select qualified applicants for undergraduate admission.
  • Assists with the coordination of projects, recruitment plans and outreach in a designated administrative portfolio.
  • Is committed to the enduring value of a liberal arts education and to securing a high-achieving and diverse student population.

Communications

  • Communicates with applicants, parents, and secondary school officials regarding decisions and policies.
  • Conducts on campus information sessions for visiting students and their families.
  • Develops internet-based relationships with prospective students through email and social media.
  • Provides professional guidance to applicants and parents about educational planning.
