Position Purpose

To conduct medical physics research, assisting Optics in Medicine faculty and researchers with medical imaging systems development and evaluation.

Skills & Knowledge
  • Excellent documentation and recording skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication.
  • Competence in several laboratory methods, procedures and techniques as well as the equipment and instruments.
  • Ability to work independently with good judgment.
  • Willingness to work with/be exposed to hazardous materials such as radioactive materials, infectious materials, and/or hazardous chemicals.
  • Knowledge of computers and software applications.
  • Strong commitment to a diverse working environment and to serving the needs of a large and diverse community.
Minimum Experience
  • Laboratory experience including spectroscopy, microscopy, and imaging.
Minimum Education
  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts specified experiments/tests, utilizing a range of established methods, procedures, and techniques.
  • Accomplishes necessary preparations including equipment and instrumentation set-up, and specimen and chemical preparation if needed.
  • Observes experiments/tests while in progress; records observations; trouble shoots as necessary.
  • Reconciles results that are disparate from anticipated findings; re-runs techniques as necessary.
  • Notifies Principal Investigator of problems associated with experiments, measurements, or analyses and suggests changes to methods, procedures, or techniques as appropriate.
  • Reports findings to Principal Investigator and other Laboratory staff for review.
