Position Purpose

To design, develop, maintain, and evaluate software systems for a variety of new and ongoing informatics projects as a member of an academic research support team in the Department of Biomedical Data Science.

Skills & Knowledge
  • Excellent programming and software design skills.
  • Professional experience with Python, Ruby or Java.
  • Basic knowledge of statistics.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and experiment with new technologies.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good written and verbal communications skills.
  • Strong commitment to a diverse working environment and to serving the needs of a large and diverse community.
Minimum Experience

*Five years of experience in software development, including software
design OR 2 years of software development and 2-3 years of experience in data analysis and management using SAS or R.

Minimum Education
  • Bachelors degree in computer science, biomedical informatics, mathematics, engineering or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Programming

  • Designs, programs, extends, maintains, and evaluates new and existing algorithms and applications to support the objectives of multiple research projects and grants.
  • May assist with publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals or conferences.

Communication and Collaboration

  • Collaborates with Dartmouth faculty and staff.
  • Maintains dialog with stakeholders as projects progress.
  • Documents project technologies as needed.

Planning and Decision-Making

  • Effectively communicates with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Determines best available technologies and resources needed to achieve project goals.
  • Understands project requirements and assesses ability to meet project goals within time restrictions.
  • Adapts to changing project requirements and makes recommendations for alternative solutions to existing projects.
