Position Purpose

To work with the faculty, program leaders, instructional designers, curriculum and teaching assistants in the Education Programs at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice (TDI). Provides curricular leadership and support with curriculum planning, implementation, and review of TDI graduate educational programs, including the Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Sciences (MS), Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), and non-degree education programs. The Curriculum Specialist works with faculty developing, delivering, and evaluating courses for all programs. May work with Program Participants to develop their Capstone, Internship and Practicum projects. Will require continuous contact with Program Participants through a variety of media, including face to face interactions. Member of the TDI Education Learning Innovation Lab, designed to foster innovation and excellence in learning across all of TDI Education.

Skills & Knowledge
  • Knowledge of public health educational programs.
  • Knowledge of consulting and project work.
  • Ability to work with participants as a practicum coordinator and as a junior instructor.
  • Ability to work with technology such as Canvas and Adobe Connect.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong quantitative and analytic skills.
  • Familiarity with health care disciplines desirable.
  • Ability to organize workflow, take appropriate initiative, and balance multiple projects.
  • Strong commitment to a diverse working environment and to serving the needs of a large and diverse community.
Minimum Experience
  • Experience in working within an educational institution.
  • Online education experience desirable.
  • Teaching, teaching assistant/associate, or research assistant/associate experience desirable.
  • Experience in consulting or project-related work desirable.
  • Experience with Canvas or other learning management systems desirable.
Minimum Education
  • Masters and/or doctorate in health-care or related field.

Course Design, Management & Evaluation

  • Works with professors, media experts, and learning design specialists to design high quality online and residential courses and course materials for the MPH, MS, and PhD programs.
  • Functions as project manager, as needed, to ensure that courses are developed and delivered according to program deadlines and meet program quality standards.
  • Course development may involve a range of duties, including case writing as well as secondary research; data collection, analysis and presentation; and qualitative research.
  • May work with capstone and/or internship faculty and advisors on the coordination, design and implementation of the Capstone and/or Internship projects for the residential MPH and MS programs.
  • May work with practicum mentors across organizations on the coordination and design of the Practicum project for the online MPH program.
  • Works with program leadership to design and implement evaluation processes.
  • Assists faculty and instructional designers with developing and implementing new technology and pedagogy into the residential and online classrooms across courses.

Curriculum Delivery

  • Assures integration across courses and programs to achieve program-level and accreditation competencies.
  • Works with instructional design specialists and faculty to achieve the learning objectives for residential and online courses.
  • Conducts a variety of learning activities for students in conjunction with course faculty (e.g. lecturing, small group facilitation, etc.).
  • Must be comfortable working with students and be perceived as someone who facilitates their learning at a very high level.
  • Provides student assistance through problem-solving and coaching.
  • Maintains office hours for student assistance as needed. Occasionally schedules one-on-one meetings with students for additional tutoring.
  • Works with faculty to evaluate student work and assignments, focusing on higher level papers and projects. Gives constructive and substantial feedback to students.
  • Must be able to manage a number of projects concurrently.
  • May work with teams of participants in the design and completion of their Capstone, Internship, and Practicum Projects.

Staff Supervision and Other Duties

  • May supervise temporary teaching assistants.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to foster innovation and excellence across TDI educational programs.
  • Must be a collaborative team member, and someone who both helps the Education staff achieve a successful project outcome and reinforces the learning objectives of the project.

Note: This position may require occasional travel.
